Jan 25, 2017

The report talks about challenges that would impede progress towards SDGs, like the goal of eradicating extreme poverty.

New Delhi: The World Economic Situation and Prospects- 2017 report is a joint product of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN/DESA), the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the five United Nations regional commissions (Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), Economic Commission for Europe (ECE), Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and Economic  and  Social  Commission  for  Western  Asia  (ESCWA)).

According to report the world economy in the year 2016 expanded by just 2.2 per cent, the slowest rate of growth since the Great Recession of 2009. Underpinning the sluggish global economy are the feeble pace of global investment, dwindling world trade growth, flagging productivity growth and high levels of debt.
