Sex Ki Adalat takes on less talked issue of menstruation

Dec 11, 2017

The new web series Sex Ki Adalat (Court of Sex) by Population Foundation of India (PFI) discusses critical issues related to sexual and reproductive health.

New Delhi: Web series, Sex Ki Adalat, has successfully started conversations about sex education that otherwise are taboo. After exploring and busting myths regarding virginity, masturbation etc in the first three cases of Sex Ki Adalat, Population Foundation Of India has released the fourth episode in the series which question the myths around menstruation and explains the scientific side of this issue.

In spite of being a natural process, menstruation is often spoken of in whispers and considered to be 'dirty', 'unhygienic' and worse ‘impure’. Case No 4 speaks of how a woman is treated like an outsider in her own house while she is menstruating. Moreover, some women are stopped from being with their children or step into their own kitchens during their periods. This case also highlights one of the most prominent issues women have been facing since centuries, i.e. ban from entering religious places and treated as outcasts

Case No. 4 takes a scientific approach on the issue and describes how menstruation is the foundation of human life. This case makes a valid point that everyone should be aware of the facts related to menstruation to understand the significance of this natural and normal process rather than associating taboos and stereotypes with it.

The new web series Sex Ki Adalat (Court of Sex) by Population Foundation of India (PFI) discusses critical issues related to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) of youth and adolescents. It uses the entertainment – education format to build awareness and aims to start a healthy discussion on social media platforms.
