Jun 07, 2018

Three Indian firms have been globally recognized for their green energy solutions.

London/New Delhi: Three Indian companies are all set to be felicitated with the prestigious Ashden Award 2018 of the United Kingdom. The three companies include –Chhattisgarh State Renewable Energy Development Agency (CREDA), Ecozen Solutions and Shuttl.

All the three entities that provide different solutions and measures on sustainable energy will be facilitated the awards in London on Thursday 14th June.

Ashden Awards are granted to businesses, NGOs, social enterprises and government organizations every year based on various aspects of sustainability.

Ashden aims to encourage the growth of sustainable energy to tackle climate change and bring social and economic benefits to millions.

CREDA is the winner of the Ashden Award for Sustainable Energy and Health. The company is implementing solar PV, inverter and battery storage systems across health centres in Chhattisgarh state in central India in partnership with the state health agency. In an area where there is no reliable power source, this is enabling stable refrigeration to keep vaccines and medicines fresh, powering buildings and supporting equipment from heated baby units to solar lights for post-natal care.

Sanjeev Jain, Chief Engineer at CREDA, said: “As an organization, we are focused on sustainable renewable energy solutions for the development of people in rural areas. We are more energised and charged to take on new and challenging projects which will benefit society and the environment ".

The second winner in India is Ecozen Solutions, which has won the Ashden Award for Powering Business. The company has developed solar-powered cold storage rooms that allow farmers to store produce including fruit, vegetables and flowers at the point of harvest. This gives them flexibility and control over distribution and the ability to choose the best moment to sell to retailers and at the right price, and it reduces the amount of fresh produce wasted due to a lack of sustainable power for refrigeration.

Shuttl is the winner of the Ashden Sustainable Mobility Award. The company crowdsources demand for bus routes digitally and its services can be booked via a mobile app. Shuttl operates in Delhi, NCR and Kolkata, which are among India’s most congested cities.Shuttl is able to provide clean, safe, air-conditioned buses that are dramatically reducing commuter car journeys, reducing pollution, and delivering a service that can be booked using a mobile phone app.

"A sustainable urban mobility system is the axis on which prosperous cities are built. Shuttl's solution drives this prosperity. We ensure seamless travel for citizens and reduce congestion in cities,” commented a Shuttl spokesperson."

The Ashden Awards are renowned as a globally recognised measure of excellence in sustainable energy. The three Indian winners will join more than 200 enterprises that have been merited by the Ashden Awards since it was founded in 2001.  Each winner will receive tailored support to help scale up their work and a prize of up to £20,000.
