Young musicians to perform for peace, harmony

The program is being organized under the banner of Sangeetika Music Society.

New Delhi: To spread the message of ‘Peace and Harmony’ and to promote Indian ethnic percussion instruments, a rare and dynamic “Percussion Orchestra” entitled “Sur & Taal” will be presented by the disciples of Pt. Keshab Kanti Chowdhury in the age group of 8 to 24 years on different percussions from different parts of India such as Tabla, Pakhawaj, Nakkara, Tasha, Naal, Dholak, Srikhol, Madol, Khamak, Ghatam, Kanjira, Duff, Dafli, Khanjari, ‘Effect instruments’ etc.

There will be an interaction between Indian and western percussions such as Darbuka (Iran), Zerb (Arabian), Djembe (African), Cajon (Spanish), Pandero (European), Kowal (Azerbaijan) etc. This will be followed by a Mohan Veena recital by Grammy Award Winner Padmabhushan Pt. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt for gracing the concert and Tabla accompaniment will be provided by Pt. Keshab Kanti Chowdhury.

It will be an unique moment to experience the symphony of 32 different types of Percussion drums & ‘Effect instruments’, cadence of intricate rhythmic patterns shown on 12 beats, rhythmic unity between East and West, interaction between melody instruments and percussions supported by melodious Raga music being played on Piano and Harmonium. The Symphony Orchestra is composed and will be conducted by Pt. Chowdhury.

The program is being organized under the banner of Sangeetika Music Society which is a registered body working in the field of promotion of Indian percussion music through the tutelage of Pt. Keshab Kanti Chowdhury, an internationally acclaimed Tabla exponent, Percussionist, Composer and teacher. The Society conducts classroom training in Indian classical music for children, young boys and girls, apart from Pt. Chowdhury’s innovations being presented to the audience from time to time.
