Executive Director: National Foundation for India (NFI)

This position offers an experienced leader an opportunity to provide direction to and steer one of the most reputed grant making Indian Foundations working to promote civil society action and public deliberation for social change. Last Date: 15th January, 2018.

Core Competencies Required

We seek applications from candidates with proven leadership credentials in at least one of the Foundation’s domains of work. The person should have a minimum of 12 - 15 years of work experience preferably in the development sector, including relevant experience in grant-making, with enough strategic experience in a leadership role where s/he was responsible for organization building, human resource development & financial management functions.

The critical aspect of this position is about the candidate having deep knowledge and insight into the lives of ordinary and marginalised people so that NFI grant-making can make a difference in the lives of common men and women, enabling them to act autonomously, to make democracy and development serve the goal of building a humane society.

Location

Based in New Delhi.

Reporting

The Executive Director reports to the Board of Trustees

About NFI

National Foundation for India (NFI) NFI is a national fund raising and grant making organization working to help disadvantaged communities improve their lives. It was established in 1992 as a secular, non-family philanthropic entity by eminent Indians, in response to a long felt need to strengthen strategic philanthropy in India and to rejuvenate voluntary sector capacities to address problems of deep seated poverty and inequality.

As an endowed Foundation, it provides grants to support voluntary organizations working in poverty endemic and difficult parts of the country across seven thematic areas of Community Health, Elementary Education, Local Governance, Livelihood Security; Peace & Justice, Citizens and Society and Development Journalism, with a mission to enable marginalized communities to improve the quality of their own lives.

NFI seeks a visionary and strategic leader to take forward the Foundation to its next phase in line with the organization’s mission, objectives and the new strategy plan. The person would be responsible for designing and developing new initiatives, provide guidance to the implementation of existing programs and grants, effectively manage the human resources as well as ensure sound financial management. S/he would also be responsible for fund raising and strategizing to build the organization as an expert in the sector to influence policy changes, particularly in the domain of philanthropy from a social justice and civil society perspective.

The Executive Director is responsible for providing strategic, programmatic, financial and administrative leadership to the Foundation and as the Executive head of the organization would represent the organization in national and international platforms and works under the guidance and oversight of the Board of Trustees.
